The mission of the Future Skills Institutes (FSI) is to help young adults obtain the skills and knowledge needed to identify and pursue career goals, secure jobs and support their successful transition to self-sufficiency.
FSI was established as an initiative of the Metro South/West Regional Employment Board (MSWREB) in 2006. The MSWREB, along with community partners, identified the need to provide young people-particularly those out of school, unemployed or underemployed-with the direction, resources, and skills necessary to obtain self-sustaining employment. FSI and the MSWREB work to build partnerships among school, business, local government, and non-profit agencies to strengthen community resources and coordinate services to support career and employment opportunities for youth.
FSI is one of several youth-serving agencies that staff the Tempo Young Adult Resource Center in downtown Framingham, MA. Many young adults who come to Tempo face a range of life challenges, including homelessness, teen parenthood, mental health issues, substance abuse, and a lack of family connections. Tempo provides these young people access to a wide range of services and support they need in one location. FSI Career Specialists work closely with Tempo partner staff to help youth overcome difficulties and succeed.
